THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE

We are inching, if not running towards a McCarthy Model of Loyalty Tests and the overriding idea that any criticism of government makes you a “Commie”, or an “Islamic Sympathizer” to an “Illegal Immigrant Lover”, or a “Tree Hugger”, or whatever group that must be banished from a Pure America. Read the First Amendment. It comes before the Second. It includes Free Speech and Separation of Church and State. Things the Founders thought were pretty damn important. The Greatest Generation? They died for these ideals. It is what made them Great. Not wearing a red hat with a catchy slogan. Democracy is a dialogue. Dictatorship is a monologue. The more voices that are silenced the closer we get to 1984.
